From 8.10. until 29.10. we show process and results of our investigations in the form of full scale installations, models, videos and AR visualizations.

Das Projekt Conceptual Joining untersucht konzeptionelle Ansätze in Entwurf und Umsetzung von Holzkonstruktionen. In experimentellen Studien werden Strategien entwickelt, welche die Eigenschaften des Materials Holz als entwurfsbestimmende Prinzipien für räumliche Strukturen nutz- und erlebbar machen. Um zeitgenössische und zukünftige Techniken
zu entwickeln, werden die Qualitäten traditioneller Handwerks-
kunst mithilfe digitaler Werkzeuge erforscht und erschlossen.
Anhand zweier Projekte wird mit dieser materialorientierten Designmethode die Beziehung von Material, Struktur und Raum untersucht. In Branch Formations werden mit Hilfe computergestützter Technologien natürlich gewachsene Holzelemente als Komponenten künstlicher Tragwerke konzipiert. Interlocking Spaces verhandelt Prinzipien der traditionellen japanischen Fügekunst mit komplexen Raumstrukturen. Die entstehenden Formationen sind geprägt von hoher Diversität
aber gleichzeitig durch eine ablesbare Ordnung definiert.
Es werden Prozesse und Ergebnisse der letzten 2,5 Jahre Forschung präsentiert. Modelle, Strukturen im 1:1 Maßstab,
Videos und Augmented Reality machen eine spekulative Zukunftsvision interaktiv begreif- und erlebbar.

The artistic research project Conceptual Joining investigates wood constructions in a series of structural and spatial experiments. By combining the intelligence of traditional craftsmanship with the potential of computational techniques different design methods and techniques are developed.
The exhibition focuses on two projects that explore the relationship between material, structure and space.
Branch Formations is about utilizing naturally grown wood elements as components of a spatial framework. In Interlocking Spaces joining principles, derived from traditional Japanese Architecture, are expanded by digital systematics, forming complex configurations.
The working process and results of 2.5 years of research are presented. Full scale installations, models, videos and Augmented Reality allow for an interactive experience of an architectural speculation.
