Lecture and Workshop with Jun Sato
On October 16th 2018 structural engineer Prof. Jun Sato from the Technical University of Tokyo will give a lecture about “Kigumi” in the course of the “Building Construction – Making of” lecture series followed by a workshop from October 17th-19th, hosted by Jun Sato himself in colaboration with the conceptual joining team for students from the disciplines Industrial Design 1, Architecture and DAE.

DAY – 12 : NARA
Today Prof. Shimizu took us to Nara and gave us a private Tour around the Hōryū-ji Temple (National Treasure) in Nara Prefecture to see the oldest wood building in existence.
DAY – 11: KYOTO
The main hall of Kiyomizu-dera temple, an impressive wooden structure from 1633, is being restored and is completely enclosed by scaffolding and a protective shell. Continue reading

At Nara we visited the Yakushi-ji Temple (national treasure) guided by Prof. Shigeatsu Shimizu and had a peek at the restoration site of the east pagoda from 730 A.D. (its twin is visible on the left side of the image). Continue reading
